Chirashree Thakkar
Principal ArchitectChirashree received her B. Arch with honours from Goa college of Architecture, University of Bombay in 1988 and Master’s degree in Heritage Management from Ahmedabad University in the year 2016. While pursuing her Master’s degree, she was got the International Exchange Program Scholarship of the Getty Foundation and completed an internship with NCPTT a unit National Parks Services of USA Chirashree is registered with the Council of Architecture She a Member of IIA and IIID. She served as Vice Chairperson and subsequently Chairperson of the Ahmedabad Chapter of IIID for 4 years. She has been a visiting faculty member at NSID, Rajkot, College of Architecture- HNG North Gujarat University, Patan and Anant National Univrsity, Ahmedabad. Chirashree did freelance work with Gerald d’Cunha (Natural Architecture) in Goa. After graduation, she worked with Prof. Anant Raje- an acknowledged master in the profession. This helped her understand and effectively use the two vastly divergent styles of architecture in her work. In the course of her practice, she has developed a keen an interest in use of ethnic and vernacular traditions of construction and use of traditional crafts. She has designed a number of individual residences using brick and local materials in different locations like Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Junagadh and Bhavnagar. She has used a large variety of traditional designs and handicrafts in her interiors which embrace apartments, villas, hotels, retail outlets and corporate office interiors. Chirashree has successfully converted 3 old buildings in various stages of disuse to functioning hotels. the Master’s degree in heritage management has widened her base to undertake more such assignments. Chirashree Thakkar’s designs have been published in a number of journals. She has been an invited speaker at various conferences and workshops in India and abroad.
